‘T‘Take that thing away from me’ that was the five-word statement Bell’s mother said when she birthed her child, she despise the occurrence. What so many people considered a blessing was something Betty rejected with tears rolling down her cheeks. Well, Betty was a prostitute, and she probably rejected Mary because of the nature of her job. If only she could foresee the future would she have done anything possible to make sure Mary never lived. A prostitute mother and her murderous daughter is a complete bad luck.

Bell’s terrorizing journey begins

Betty was probably angry at herself or nature for being a mother at a time her career was booming, a temporary delay for the passionate prostitute. The revenge was on the girl and no one else, she submitted Mary to intense abuse both physical and mental. This was evident enough from the details given by neighbors and Betty’s own sister. Due to Betty’s lack of care for the child, she was prone to accidents.

Betty was often on her business trips and these serve as periods of rest for the young Bell. All this was the tragedy for a young girl who would later be offered to men for prostitution.

Bell became a weirdo as she approaches her 10th birthday, the fragile, pale-looking girl as now turned into a complete different kid. The element of childhood seemed to have vanished, the image of a demon now imprinted over her face.

Taking a life for the first time

A child was found lying face down on the ground surface surrounding an air raid shelter, the mother ruled it an accident but Bell was present, playing with the three-year-old boy who was injured from the supposed accident. No one suspected her but Bell began to show her demonic powers when three mothers approached the police and reported a similar event where Mary was said to have attempted to choke their children. The police didn’t take the case seriously, it was dismissed after an interview with the accused.

Bell manifested into a fully grown demon when she strangled a four-year-old Martin Brown to death with the help of her friend, Norma. This happened at a haunted house in Scotswood, England. There was no mark of violence, they assumed that Little Brown had swallowed the pills from an empty bottle of painkillers found beside his body. The case was tagged accident and therefore closed.

Bell was proud of what she had done, ending the boy’s life brought nothing but joy. She began visiting the mourning family requesting to see his body, in a way that seemed to be a jest. Bell and Norma then raided a nursery school, vandalizing properties, and imprinting notes that claim their involvement on walls.

The second murder

Just after two months Bell and Norma killed again but this time it was more brutal, and specific. The duo strangled Brian Howe, a three-year-old boy. She then cut some parts of his body, including his penis and thigh with scissors.

Callous enough, Bell and her accomplice helped in the search for Brian; she even pointed towards the building they left his body but Norma quickly suggested otherwise, cooking up a strong reason he wouldn’t be found there. The entire community was thrown into panic when Brain’s body was unearthed in the building Bell had pointed at.

Soon, the autopsy report was delivered, a bold letter M was written on his chest, the coroner also discovered that the boy was killed by someone with little force, this suggested the murderer to be a child. That was when things started going downhill for Bell.

Bell and Norma were called in by the police for an interview, they acted strangely especially when the police noted Mary was seen with Brain few hours before his murder. Even though the investigator decided to end the interview they were soon called upon for the second time due to some series of event that took place at Brian’s funeral.

Mary decided to end the conversation as soon as possible and leave no room for further questioning, she cooked up a story, narrating that she saw Brian getting manhandled by a boy earlier before his body was found and this boy was carrying a a scissors. No one mentioned a pair scissors, the police hid it from the public. The other person that could have this information was Brain’s murderer!

The police pressed further and that’s it! they had a confession and the two evil girls would then face justice.

Bringing them to justice

Norman was acquitted due to the fact that she was an unwilling accomplice but Mary was convicted for manslaughter not murder because the court psychiatrists convinced the jury that Mary had shown symptoms of psychopathy and therefore could not be held fully responsible for the crime.

Even with this Mary was still a threat to other children in the community, the jury sentenced her to prison at her majesty’s pleasure. This means Mary was not given a measurement of time she would spend in prison but could be released any time the administration feels like it.

Bell was released in 1980, after she recorded an impressive improvement in her treatment, she was still serving but was permitted to live in the community under probation.

It is clear and undisputable that Betty made Bell who she was, she was never given proper parental care instead she was subjected to abuse and this reshaped the child into a demon, making her one of the most callous child murderers in history, every time we remember Bell as a bad child we must also make reference to her mother.
